CraigsList Seller guide
When ebay initially came out it was all the rage amongst people looking to sell their possessions. Instead of going to consignment stores and potentially waiting months before they got paid for their merchandise; consumers were now able to sell online directly to other people and pull in a profit right away. Ebay became so successful in such a short amount of time that many other auction websites popped up just like it and to this very day this type of website has done very well for itself.
There's a new kid on the block though and one that is challenging ebay for the honor of being the most convenient way to sell online. This website, known as
Craigslist.org, has already been around for awhile but because of media coverage and word of mouth, it has only started to become really popular recently.
Craigslist is actually a multi-location website meaning that there are many different craigslist websites located on the internet for different places. Very large cities in the United States all have their own websites (i.e. craigslist Denver, craigslist Portland, craigslist New York, craigslist Boston, craigslist Los Angeles, craigslist Seattle or Austin etc.) as well as some of the larger cities around the world (i.e.
craigslist Toronto, craigslist Vancouver, craigslist Montreal, craigslist San Diego etc).
There are many advantages to selling your merchandise on craigslist instead of going through an auction related website like ebay, a couple of which are detailed below.
No Cost: When you sell an item through consignment with a physical brick and mortar store, part of the profit generated by the sale of that item is taken by the store in order to cover their costs. The costs of running an internet business are frequently lower and because of that ebay commissions are lower than those of normal stores. However, they still do take a commission (not to mention the commission also taken by PayPal when you receive the payment) and for that reason it does cost you money to do business with them.
Ads that you post on most craigslist websites will not cost you money and will be seen by everyone who visits that website. The craigslist community is a gigantic one and because of this if anyone is interested in purchasing what it is you have to offer, they will contact you soon after your posting.
Anonymity: When you deal with selling products on ebay, there is no way for you to remain anonymous. Through the fact that your payment processor will have your name on it as well as your ebay account, it is impossible for you to start your sale anonymously.
Craigslist websites give you the option of using an anonymous e-mail address generated by their server at the time of your posting so if you wish to remain anonymous until you deal directly with the person interested in your product, you may do so.
These are just two of the many reasons that websites like craigslist Dallas, craigslist Chicago and all of the other craigslist websites are great places to sell all the stuff you otherwise would have used ebay for. So go ahead and give craigslist a try and save yourself some money in the process.
